Liberian rebel leader -- drop charges against Taylor IF ...

The leader of the main rebel faction in Liberia gave an interview to the French paper Le Figaro in which he said he would support charges against Taylor being dropped, if he agrees to leave Liberia.

Sekou Damate Conneh is head of Liberians United for Renconciliation and Democracy (Lurd).

"Whether he is judged or not is not our problem. It concerns above all the international community and Sierra Leone.

Our country is completely destroyed. We have other things to do than busy ourselves over Taylor's future."

... "All I know is that Taylor must leave the country. If he doesn't, we can already guess what will happen.

"He will go back into the bush and continue the war for years to come."
