Egypt: one country, one friday sermon

Late last month, there was a news report that the Egyptian government was going to start requiring that ALL imams across Egypt deliver the same sermon, written and distributed by the government.

Now this ... an offical (sounding) denial from the ministry of religious endowments.
"That is absolutely false," said Minister Hamdi Zaqzuq, quoted by the government newspaper Al-Ahram.

"The imam (prayer leader) is free to choose the topic of the sermon as the Friday sermon should take into consideration the circumstances in each place. A sermon in the city cannot be the same as in a rural zone."
